10 Years of Chance 2 Dance: Celebrating at the Dancing for a Decade Fall Ball
Statistically, most nonprofits don’t make it past 5 years. I wonder sometimes: why is it so hard to do good? Shouldn’t helping others be something people want to be a part of…?
The reality is, there are ‘bad,’ mismanaged nonprofits out there, some overpay executives while others bake their books with self interest over others, this ruins the reputation for the rest of us who are genuinely invested in helping our community and people. You have to prove yourself and continue to advocate for what you believe in.
It has never been easy to be ‘do good,’ running a nonprofit is extremely challenging and taxing; funds, donors, and grants are never guaranteed and I’ve had to learn a lot over the years to continue to be creative with our programming and how we manage our money to ensure our mission stays at the forefront of our focus even when the purse strings had to be pulled tight during various seasons of growth.
With that, I am SO PROUD! From Day 1, C2D has always been focused on our dancers, representing those who are often overlooked and underrepresented. There are minimal programs that are year round and solely focused on the special needs community with quality, trained, and effective instructors.
Over the last decade, Chance 2 Dance has served nearly 8,000 individuals representing over 31 different disabilities!? I can’t believe my tiny seedling of an idea: ‘maybe dance can help others, like it did for me…’ has grown into such a purposeful, mission- driven cause with a team, board, community, partners, dancers, and their families who supports us and have been witness to how truly beneficial the dance arts are for everyBODY.
This past weekend was so special, we held a community celebration where everyone who has been a part of our organization was invited to celebrate 10 years with us. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s always worth it.
Our dancers & mission are thriving, it has grown beyond what I could have ever envisioned & I’m so deeply grateful for all the love, encouragement, advice, and lessons I’ve received over the years. Thank you to each and every person who has been a part of C2D and for believing in us.
