Shimmying Into Our Summer Season

The stage lights may be dimmed for now, but our hearts are still glowing from the incredible energy of our Brooklyn showcase! As we transition into our summer session, we’re filled with gratitude, excitement, and — as always — a whole lot of movement. From unforgettable performances to new borough-wide beginnings, there’s so much to celebrate at Chance 2 Dance NYC right now.
Let’s take a look at all the magic happening in our community!
Brooklyn Brought the House Down
Our first-ever showcase in Brooklyn was a full-on celebration of dance, dedication, and community spirit. Held at the beautiful Roulette Theater, this special event brought together our students from across New York City for an afternoon that won’t be forgotten. The energy in the room was electric as our dancers took the stage, sharing their talent and creativity through group numbers that had everyone clapping along, and solo and duet performances that moved the audience to tears. We saw joyful jumping, heartfelt spins, and moments of pure magic as students expressed themselves through movement in their own unique ways.
Adding even more sparkle, we were honored to have a Broadway performer serve as our Emcee, bringing charisma, warmth, and a whole lot of stage magic to the event. Behind the scenes, our dancers were treated to a pampering session by a sensory-friendly makeup artist from Makeup on Wheels, who made sure each performer felt fabulous and performance-ready.
Watching all of our NYC students share the same stage was a true reminder of why we do what we do. It was more than a showcase; it was a chance to come together and honor every dancer’s progress, no matter how big or small.
To every family member, friend, volunteer, teaching artist, and student who made the day so special: Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You helped make this amazing event unforgettable!
Global Grooves All Summer Long
Now that summer is in full swing, we’re keeping the rhythm going with a vibrant series of monthly dance themes — and this time, we’re going global!
Throughout the summer, each class will explore a different international dance style, giving our students a chance to shimmy, twirl, and stomp their way around the world. From the colorful energy of Bollywood to the fancy footwork of Salsa and the bouncy joy of Polka, our dancers will get to learn how people from diverse cultures use movement to celebrate life.
These themes will help our students explore new rhythms, improve coordination, and develop a deeper appreciation for the many ways dance can bring people together. We can’t wait to see how our dancers interpret these global grooves with their own flair!
Learning diverse dances feels particularly important in the current climate, with DEI-related funding cuts continuing to place pressure and stress on communities like ours. Miss Juanita, one of our incredible Florida instructors, recently penned a powerful article on the subject, saying: “When we invest in inclusive programs, when we choose respectful language, when we see people not as categories but as individuals, we build a stronger, more compassionate world.”
Chance 2 Dance Expands to the Bronx!
As if the showcase and summer fun weren’t exciting enough, we’re thrilled to announce our first-ever partnership in the Bronx is starting soon, marking a huge milestone for our New York program! With classes already running in Staten Island, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens, this new partnership means we can now reach even more amazing students and families with our inclusive, movement-based programs.
We believe every person deserves a chance to shine through dance, and this expansion brings us one step closer to that goal. Our small but mighty NYC team is already hard at work preparing for the Bronx launch in early July, and we can’t wait to welcome new dancers into the C2D family!
From the success of our spring showcase to the joy of summer classes and borough-wide growth, it’s clear: Chance 2 Dance is on the move — literally and figuratively!
